Condition. The book is in Good+ condition. The front cover has a 1.5 x 7 cm area where there is tape residue. In the same area there are two spots (ca 2 x 2 cm) where the illustration is completely scraped off. There is a larger area (5 x 2.5 cm) where the cover is scraped leaving faint to no illustration. The corners on the front and back cover are dog eared and this extends a 4-5 pages in at the front and back. At the back the top string tie is breaking but the binding remains solid. Both covers and pages at the front and back have light soiling. Internally the pages are clean and free of foxing or staining. None of the folded pages are severed or cut at the edge. The spine covering is in tact with ca 1 inch of loss at the head and foot of the spine. There is a pencil inscription inside the front cover reading signed by "P. Barboutau, Paris 1915." Pierre Barboutau died in 1916. There is indistinct pencil writing at the top right edge (2.5 cm) extending down the top right margin (6 cm). This book is a large plain paper version and is unnumbered.

The front cover is a single page color woodblock. The front cover woodblock print and the 14 internal double page woodblock prints all have the artist's seal (han). Each page of text has a decorative black and white illustration and one or more small black and white woodcut text illustrations.

Le teste de ces trois cent cinquante exemplaires a du etre imprime sur papier, Hon-sho, le Tori-no-ko etant trop epais pour etre plie. Le papier Japonais, a cause de sa composition ne peut etre imprime que d'un cote.
