Hasegawa, T. (Takejiro)
James, Mrs. T.H. (translator):
Three Reflections Told in English by Mrs. T. H. James, No. 21, Japanese Fairy Tale Series (English), Tokyo (17 Kami Negishi), c1934, 12mo (5 1/2 x 7 5/8 in - 13.8 x 19.4 cm), large size for a Hasegawa book, 12 folded crepe paper pages, 24 pages total including covers. There is a colophon in the book.

Dating this book. This book has a colophon but I find it hard to read. I recognize the address of 17 Kami Negishi. This book was originally published in February, 1894. The early printing was 5 x 6 3/4 in and carried the 10 Hiyoshi-cho, Tokyo address. I believe this is a later printing which is slightly larger (5 1/2 x 7 5/8 in) and carries the 17 Kami Negishi, Tokyo address. This printing is frequently referred to as the 1934 large format printing. Four books were published in large format c1934. These were:

  1. [No. 1] Momotaro with additional title on front cover reading Japanese Fairy Tale, printed Showa 7 (1932) & published Showa 9 (1934), 10 folded pages. (David Thompson originally but apparently retranslated by T.H. James)
  2. [No 16] The Wooden Bowl with additional title on front cover reading Japanese Fairy Tale, printed and published Showa 9 (1934) 11 folded pages. (T.H. (Kate) James)
  3. [No 21] Three Reflections with additional title on the front cover reading Japanese Fairy Tale Series No. 21. (T.H. James)
  4. [No 22] The Flowers of Remembrance and Forgetfulness, printed and published Showa 14 (1939), 11 folded pages. (T.H. James)
