Before and After
the Great Kanto Earthquake
of September 1, 1923

 
The photographs below are of the US Naval Hospital (USNH) in Yokohama located at 99 Bluff. The photographs show the hospital before the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and one shows the spot where the hospital stood immediately after the earthquake and resulting fire-storm that obliterated the structures on the Bluff as well as in the foreign settlement area below.

This unit consists of 6 black and white 3 x 5 inch photographs. They are shown below. Three of the photographs show the USNH before the Great Kanto Earthquake and one shows it after the Earthquake. Two other photographs show the devastation to the foreign settlement section of Yokohama in the area below the Bluff.

The photographs in Very Good condition with no significant faults. They have manuscript annotations on the backs.
