Ogawa, K. (Kazumasa)
Scenes in the Eastern Capital of Japan, Tokyo (Hiyoshicho), 1913, 4th Edition, 4to (9 x 12 in - 23 x 30.5 cm), illustrated covers with gray cloth spine and gilt Japanese lettering, beveled edges, 108 unpaginated full page plates. The first plate is a collotype plate. The 107 plates that follow are halftones (2 color and 105 black and white). Except for the plate of the Meiji Emperor and Empress, all other plates have descriptive information in Japanese in the margin and have an English descriptive caption. There is a one page English preface and Japanese language preface and listing of plates. The book is in a vertical format and reads Japanese style (from right to left and back to front). An excellent view of Tokyo in the early 1900s by the renowned photographer, publisher and printer, Kasumasa Ogawa.
On the cover of the 3rd and 4th editions, the word "Capital" is spelled with an "I" instead of an "L". The correct spelling appears on the title page.
