The present volume forms another addition to a series of photographs, illustrating different phases of Japanese life, which we have already published. The select views of the three well-known flower resorts in and near the capital, i.e. Uyeno, Mukojima and Koganei, herein contained are faithful representations of the Hanami (Flower-view). It is the Sakura, or cherry that carries away the hearts of little ones, young maidens, and some grown-up children in this country who take it seriously amiss not to try a picnic, when nature adorns the trees with roscate blossoms. With all its prosaic features, the Hanami in none the less an interesting and popular institution in Japan, and after once enjoying it the scene will long linger in the memory of the participant.
