The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Craft Treasures of Okinawa, Tokyo, Kodansha, 1978, 10 1/2 x 14 5/8 in - 27.7 x 37.2 (large 4to), 294 pp. See below for the various printing/distribution systems for the English language editions. Lavishly illustrated with 200 full page pictures of the Okinawan crafts (33 black and white and 167 color). This book has been entirely translated into English. The covers are a mustard colored cloth. The book was issued with a dust jacket and cardboard slipcase.

This book presents examples of Okinawan crafts that were on display at an Okinawan Art Exhibition in the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto in October and November of 1974. The book is in two basic sections. The first is beautiful full page pictures of the crafts. Many of the illustrations show more than one object. Here is a summary of the full page plates:

The book also has two full page maps.

The illustrations are followed by a discussion of Okinawan history, ceramics, musical instruments, lacquer ware, textiles, and notes regarding the photo plates.

 
There are at least three versions of this book. An edition that is all in Japanese. and the following two English language editions. The two English language editions are basically idential with the differences being in minor aspects. Both English language (US and UK) editions have 294 pages of numbered text.

1978 first edition for Japan distribution. I have not examined this book but assume that it is completely in the Japanese language.

1978 edition for United States distribution (ISBN 0-87011-330-5). This book has the Kodansha logo and name on the foot of the cover, dust jacket and cardboard slip case. The dust jacket has the price of $85.00. At the bottom of the inside flap of the dust jacket is "A 67 + Japanese characters (the first of which reads Okinawa). The page after the title page reads:

1978 edition for United Kingdom distribution (ISBN 0-906026-01-6). This book has the Serindia logo and name on the foot of the cover, dust jacket and cardboard slip. In addition, the Serindia logo is blind stamped on the front cover. At the bottom of the inside flap of the dust jacket is the ISBN. The dust jacket has the price of £45. The page after the title page reads:
