In this lithograph an exploring party is starting the first day of an expedition. The bay in the background is probably Naha harbor and the ships those of the Perry Expedition. The Narrative does not specifically discuss the scene in the lithograph in any detail.
The titles/lettering read:
- From Nature by Heine
- Lith of SARONY & Co., New York
- NAPHA FROM BAMBOO VILLAGE
Bottom edge (binding edge) is ragged with creases on both corners. Heavy tone spot in left margin. There is a circular spot at the top (upper right) of the image. Light but clearly visible text foxing on the image.
Paper thickness is 9mm.
