Ancient Castle of Na-Ga-Gus-Ko,
Variations in Lithographs |
There appear to be several versions of this lithograph with slightly different characteristics. I have broken these down into two major types.
| |
Type I Type I Tucker book. Has smoother ground in foreground and no smaller stones visible in the right foreground. There are 7-8 figures going up the hill. Type I has the standard titles: "From nature by Heine, Figures by Brown" (left), "T.Sinclair's Lith, Phila" (right), nothing in the middle. |
Type IIa Type IIa There are 11-13 figures going up the hill. You see a cluster of 5-6 people at the top of the group, not 1-2 as you do in Type I. The title/lettering is the same as in Type I. |
| |
Type IIb Nicholson book. Similar to Type IIa but the title/lettering reads: "From nature by Heine (left), "T. Sinclair's Lith, Phila (Center)", "Figure by Brown" (right). The lettering is all outside the image box. |
|
| |
Type I - Entire Picture |
|
Type IIa - Entire Picture |
|
Type IIb has definitely been attributed to a Nicholson printing of the Narrative.
